2. The Role of the Paediatric First Aider 2.1 What is a Paediatric First Aider?

A Paediatric First Aider is someone who has attended a suitable paediatric first aid course (typically 12 hours in duration) and who has the knowledge, skills and experience to help Infants and Children who have been injured or taken ill before the arrival of medical professionals like Paramedics, Doctors or Nurses.

Parents, Teachers, Carers, Child-minders and people working with young children will all benefit from the information in this book.

The topics covered mirror the requirements of Ofsted and the Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework:

“At least one person who has a current paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises at all times when children are present. There must be at least one person on outings who has a current paediatric first aid certificate.”
