Unconscious Child


Recovery - The child’s body now relaxes - Normal breathing resumes - Child remains unconscious and this may last several minutes


Treatment - Ensure the area around the child is free from danger, so they don’t hurt themselves during the seizure - Cushion and protect the child’s head but do not hold in position - Do not place anything in the child’s mouth or restrain them - Record the length of the seizure - Stay with the child until their recovery is complete - Reassure the child


Call 999/112:


If it is the child’s first seizure If the seizure lasts more than 5 minutes If the child suffers repeated seizures without regaining consciousness


If the child becomes injured during the seizure If the child is unconscious for longer than 10 minutes
