Bone, Muscle & Joint Injuries Concussion
Concussion is caused when the child’s brain is shaken within the skull by a blow or bang to the head. Typically the child will lose consciousness briefly (a minute or so) leading to short term memory loss of the event that caused the injury but then they will make a full recovery.

Recognition - Brief loss of consciousness - Nausea, mild headache, dizziness - Loss of memory
Treatment - If unconscious, place the child in the recovery position - Call 999/112 and ask for an ambulance - Monitor airway, breathing and level of response
- If the child remains conscious following the blow to their head, monitor vital signs and if their level of response begins to deteriorate after their initial recovery call 999/112 and ask for an ambulance
