Providing safe, prompt and effective first aid to a casualty can only be done through careful management of an incident. 1.

Assess the situation 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Make the area as safe as possible Find out what has happened Take control Send for help Begin providing first aid

Once you have established that it is safe to approach the child, you now need to establish what’s wrong with the child. This is done through a series of logical surveys based upon the priorities of first aid.

Our primary concern is to check a child’s breathing, once that is established, managed and controlled we can then turn our attention to see if the child is bleeding and once this is controlled we can finally investigate and treat any breaks that may have occurred.
