Introduction from the author
I’ve wanted to write a first aid book for years. As a Professional First Aid Trainer I’ve used many books to assist my learners to understand and retain the knowledge necessary to become safe, prompt and effective first aiders. But I always felt the books I’d used, just lacked that personal touch. I wanted the books to explain the subjects to my learners in a way that was clear, straightforward, simple to understand and jargon free. A book that spoke to the learners in the same way I would, when actually stood up in a class teaching first aid.
I’ve tried to do all of these things when writing this Paediatric First Aid manual and the others in the series (CPR & AED and First Aid). I hope you feel that I’m talking to you as an individual as you turn the pages of this book.
If you are reading this book because you are on a workplace Paediatric First Aid course then you will see each chapter follows the learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the Level 2 Award in Paediatric Emergency First Aid course (QCF).
This book complements the hands on practical training you will get from your first aid trainer and supports the underpinning knowledge necessary to be a confident first aider.
And don’t forget, first aid can be a life saving skill and you never know when you may need to use it. So remember to keep this book safe and read it from time to time to help keep your skills fresh.
I hope you enjoy my book and your Paediatric First Aid course.
