ONBOARD ENTERTAINMENT FLYDESK GOES FOR CABIN CREW GROWTH


ARINC connects with Virgin


 ARINC has secured Virgin Atlantic Airways as its launch customer for its new Cabin Connect on-board wifi solution.


 The FlyDesk paperless cabin system is now in use by more than 600 cabin crew. Four airlines - Allegiant Air, Eurolot, VivaAerobus and Air Baltic have completed operational trials of the FlyDesk software which uses iPads with specially designed apps to run passenger services and key admin functions onboard. The FlyDesk Cabin currently includes five app options: e-reports, manuals, buy-on- board, messaging and manifest. These digitize crew manuals and reporting processes and allow cabin defects and


incident reports to be submitted immediately to save time and increase operational efficiency. The Buy on Board app, launched at AIX in Hamburg, gives crews the ability to search products, tally sales totals and take payment through the iPad with passengers able to set up a tab to run throughout the duration of their flight.


The messaging software can be used to update crews on latest offers, and the manifest software supplies them with details of all passengers’ preferences, past travel history and any notified special needs.


Oman grows connectivity


Oman Air has announced major growth in the uptake by passengers of its inflight mobile phone and wifi connectivity. Between January 2012 and January 2013, the airline experienced a 130 per cent increase in internet package sales and a 180 per cent increase in connectivity revenues. Mobile
