Aircraft Interiors Expo 2014 will be held in the Hamburg Messe, in Hamburg, Germany, on April 8-10 next year. The event is again
AIX 2013 SHOWCASES INNOVATION
Aircraft Interiors Expo 2013 was held alongside WTCE in Hamburg and saw the world's biggest players in IFE, connectivity and communication come together to present their latest innovations and developments. Exhibitors included hardware manufacturers, systems developers and content providers, and the talk was all of wifi and connectivity, personal devices and streaming. The race is on to add internet and live TV options to the
onboard mix and the potential trend away from in-seat screens towards the use of passengers’ own electronic devices was hotly debated across the floor. Lufthansa Systems expects
device-based entertainment to certainly dominate on short and medium haul flights in the coming years. Technology is also playing its
part in reducing weight with the FlyDesk paperless cabin system among innovations cutting down on crew manuals and physical documentation, while other
developments are opening the way to longer usage of the IFE onboard and cheaper fees for phone usage and wifi. Key players such as Thales and
GoGo announced new alliances, and airlines as varied as Virgin Atlantic, Oman Air and El Al were announcing the deployment of new IFE systems, better mobile and internet connectivity, all aimed at building greater differentiation into their onboard product offering.
