Yorkshire Counties York’s Tale of the Ale….
Fittingly, the first unit with its more recent extension and being within a fenced compound, met the Brewery’s needs. “It was clear, with what was at the time one of our first Covid-19 Safe viewings, that the recently extended double unit met their requirements and I was even more delighted to hear from them again this year, when we launched marketing of a neighbouring unit so soon afterwards” commented Andrew.

One of York’s major business expansions in the Pandemic involved a local and well-known Company utilising both City Centre and out of town locations reports Andrew Hedley Blacks Property Consultants Ltd -York
The City’s Brew York Craft Brewery started life in 2015 in a 6,000 sq.ft. unit within the City Centre’s well established and popular Enterprise Complex in Walmgate which it still retains. However, expansion has been rapid and Andrew Hedley of York-based Agents, Blacks Property Consultants, having let the original premises was pleased to meet Brewery representatives once again, this time as Sole Letting Agent for both York’s Handley Park and Brooklands Industrial Park at Osbaldwick, to the east of the City Centre.
Modern industrial units of 13,000 sq.ft. and shortly afterwards, 15,000 sq.ft., became available due to expansion plans of their respective occupiers.
Brew York’s expansion at the end of 2020 saw the Brewery moving its main production from their City Centre Walmgate site to the 13,000 sq.ft. unit at Osbaldwick. The expansion project being finished in February 2021, the new site houses the main brewery, with Walmgate’s capacity of 800,000 pints increased to almost 4,000,000 pints and with scope to double that. Also at the new site is a 3,000 sq.ft. Cold Store housing package cans and kegs at 4 degrees for product stability and shelf life, and ensuring product quality. Finally, the site houses a grain silo able to store up to 27 tonnes of uncrushed barley.
With Brew York’s team soon settled at Handley Park, a decision was taken to acquire a further 15,000 sq.ft. unit at the neighbouring Brooklands Industrial Park. The additional unit provides both warehouse space and offices now home to the Brew York HQ admin team.
In the City Centre, Walmgate’s Enterprise Complex is retained as a small- scale production site for limited ‘specials and home to the Brewery’s Tap Room and Beer Hall venues. Visitors welcome!
With an even more recent letting of a 10,000 sq.ft. at Brooklands, York is enjoying strong demand for industrials and Blacks Property Consultants expect further announcements relating to large units soon. The Practice is also Sole Letting Agent for other sites around York including Osbaldwick’s Bentley Park and, east of the City, the Hessay Industrial Estate.
