Supporting the Next Generation of Warehouse and Logistics Professionals
Large Warehouse Team
The pandemic has impacted the way we live, work and shop and this has led to increased demand for warehouse and logistics workers at all levels. The UK transport and logistics sector currently supports 2.6 million jobs, and that number is rising due to the increase in demand for online deliveries and sophisticated logistics management systems which require skilled individuals to install and operate them. Indeed, today’s modern logistics warehouses provide a wide variety of jobs including customer service advisors, IT logistics engineers and data analysts, as well as more traditional warehouse roles.
Prologis UK, wanted to enable young, unemployed and disadvantaged people in the South East Midlands area to develop the skills needed to pursue a new career in the logistics sector: that’s why they chose the region as the location to launch the Prologis Warehousing and Logistics Training Programme (PWLTP) at their new centre for logistics training and education at Prologis DIRFT. We caught up with the property company to find out more about the new scheme.
What is the Prologis Warehousing and Logistics Training Programme?
The Prologis Warehousing and Logistics Training Programme (PWLTP) is a new initiative to provide rapid training for individuals looking to pursue a career in logistics. The initiative was launched in March 2020 in Northamptonshire and the wider South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) area. Part of the global Prologis Community Workforce Initiative (CWI), established by Prologis Inc in 2019, the PWLTP is a free digital learning and development programme aimed at training

those leaving education and re-skilling the unemployed by equipping them with the knowledge needed to pursue a career in logistics. Globally this programme has an ambitious target of re-training 25,000 individuals by 2025. In the UK, the programme in Northamptonshire and the wider SEMLEP area aims to put 500-700 local people through the PWLTP by the end of 2021 alone.
How does the Prologis Warehousing and Logistics Training Programme work?
Working in partnership with the Supply Chain Open Education Academy (SCOEA) – a Northamptonshire-based academy providing education and training for the supply chain sector – PWLTP is a free digital learning and development programme aimed at training those leaving education and re-skilling the unemployed by equipping them with the knowledge needed to pursue a career in logistics.
How many people do you hope to train?
Globally this programme has an ambitious target of re-training 25,000 individuals by 2025. In the UK, the programme in Northamptonshire and the wider SEMLEP area aims to put 500 local people through the PWLTP by the end of 2021 alone.
