We’re home to Caterpillar, Next, Santander, Walkers Snack Foods (PepsiCo), IBM Client Innovation Centre UK and Amazon, alongside the £100m world class training facility for Leicester City Football Club.
For three years in a row Leicester was named one of the top ten best cities in which to live and work by the Good Growth for Cities index. Leicester is considered one of the best UK cities to start a business in and is also one of the most entrepreneurial places in the country. Unrivalled transport links, a workforce of over 2.8 million within a 1-hour drive-time and one of Britain’s most attractive and cost-effective places to develop, own or lease property.
Key strategic developments include Leicester Waterside and Station Regeneration, Space Park Leicester; Loughborough University Science and Enterprise Park; and Lutterworth East a trailblazing, sustainable housing development (featuring new schools, business space and community facilities) offering a healthy place to live, work, socialise and invest.
The LEP’s golden threads of economic recovery and growth
Despite the enormous impact of the Covid-19 pandemic over the last 12 months, the Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership (LLEP) has a vision that our region will become one of the most productive economies in England with healthy growth, people and businesses. To achieve this, our strategic plans for recovery, skills and investment, incorporate four golden threads:
• Place (supporting resilience through recovery plans for our city, towns and rural areas)
• Green recovery (accelerating carbon reduction and sustainable clean growth)
• Digital (effective infrastructure, skills and transformation)
• Inclusive growth and wellbeing (ensuring a fair recovery across society)

In response to the Covid-19 crisis we developed a high-level Economic Recovery Action Plan for Leicester and Leicestershire, that identifies key priorities over the next 12 months. We’ve allocated £1.6m additional LLEP funding to support key priorities. There’s a particular focus on jobs and skills, including digital and green technology skills, supporting business recovery and increasing innovation across the industrial spectrum.
Despite the pandemic, Leicester and Leicestershire has some exciting investment plans, some of which are summarised below.
Space Park Leicester
Phase one of the £100m world leading Space Park Leicester will welcome its first tenants in July. The space park will act as a cluster for innovative research, enterprise and education in space, Earth observation and space enabled sectors, providing research and incubation facilities.
The first phase will deliver a 4,800m² state-of-the-art, high-tech facility for research, development and manufacturing, enabling academic and private sector collaboration.
Phase two will complete in November and provide a commercial Low- Cost Access to Space (LoCAS) satellite manufacturing facility for mid- range satellites.
The ambition is for Space Park to become a catalyst for multi-nationals, engineering and space data businesses to bring millions of pounds of investment to the city.
