VISION OPTIMIZED VisualOn

BY ANNE MORRIS

Streaming services and video player provider VisualOn is presenting its VisualOn Optimizer transcoding product in Hall 5. VisualOn Optimizer offers server- side software to optimise the bitrate of live and VOD video content, without reducing video quality. In performance tests, the service was said to have enabled up to 60% bitrate reduction while maintaining the quality of H.265/HEVC and H.264/AVC media for video delivery. VisualOn Optimizer is based on patent-pending proprietary technology. It analyses the content to determine the best transcoder settings for achieving the target quality. The product can be added to existing delivery systems without

the need to change transcoders or deliery workfl ows. enefi ts include a reduction in CDN costs (pay-as-you-go), as well as traffi c and storage costs enabling lie workfl ow with zero latency and saving energy on storage, transmission and playback. VisualOn notes that for video delivery service providers, reducing the cost of bandwidth, CDN transfer and storage while maintaining or improving the quality of the viewing experience is a critical issue that must be addressed in order to maximise profi ts in a highly competitive market. 5.H18

A20-RX UNVEILED WITH SPECTRABAND TECHNOLOGY

Sound Devices BY ADRIAN PENNINGTON

The A20-RX is a two-channel, true diversity receiver with SpectraBand technology. SpectraBand gives the A20-RX receiver and A20-Mini transmitter an “unprecedented” tuning range of 470MHz-1525MHz, claims Sound Devices. This means more operating

bands within their tuning range in any given country.

In addition, the SpectraBand

frequencies are available in a given location, alleviating the problem of no open spectrum to operate wireless mics, while money is saved by purchasing only one piece of gear, which can be used anywhere. Worldwide travel should also be easier, as the A20-RX and A20- Mini can use all legal frequency

hardware includes “exceptional” fi ltering that improes immunity from strong interfering signals (for example, a local DTV transmitter) or other transmitters close to the receiver (IFBs, two- way radios, camera hops). Also announced at IBC, the A20-Mini transmitter has receied a free fi rmware upgrade to enable SpectraBand when used with the A20-RX. 8.C95
