ITN SWITCHES TO IP ROUTING AND UPGRADES GALLERIES dB Broadcast BY DAVID FOX
Systems integrator dB Broadcast has replaced the ageing HD-SDI routers and control system at ITN in London with a single IP routing platform, as well as upgrading several galleries. The project required a full in-situ refurb while guaranteeing no interruption to news broadcasts.
ST2110 was chosen as the best of the available standards, while N had matured suffi ciently to be the preferred end-point control mechanism, to create an open fl exible platform. and AES67 were adopted for audio. The core media network uses two monolithic 100Gb switches from Arista, with further access switches connected to each core to improve density and provide a more cost-effective implementation. Mike Bryan, Technology Director, dB Broadcast, said: “The project has taken 18 months to realise, with all the additional challenges that the Covid pandemic brought. In the early stages we were able to utilise our proof-of-concept hosting capacity at dB’s Aurora House base, which made a massive difference by allowing us to maintain momentum with our team and provide remote access to suppliers. The migration stage of a project where you are replacing the heart of a news broadcaster’s infrastructure shouldn’t be underestimated and the combined dB Broadcast and ITN team have done a great job in planning and executing it with no disruption to any serice. 10.C41, 1.C37e
