BUILT-IN SUBTITLES SPEED UP MEDIA PRODUCTION WORKFLOWS Newsbridge

BY ADRIAN PENNINGTON

Users of cloud media hub Newsbridge can now generate subtitles for their video content within the platform itself. Visitors to the Hall 7 stand can see it in operation.

Using the same disruptive multimodal AI technology that enables speech-to-text, Newsbridge’s built-in subtitles feature speeds up media production workflows. ts adherence to key elements of the BBC Subtitle Guidelines makes it easier for editors to implement subtitling best practices. The subtitles can be burned-in for publication on social media, and the new feature also integrates with Avid, Adobe and Apple Final Cut Pro workstations. Included in the feature’s initial rollout is the ability to add, edit or delete

Newsbridge now offers the ability to add and amend subtitles that closely mimic human-generated text

text segments and generate an  file. uture deployments will automatically generate the name of the person speaking, allow multiple users to be working in the subtitle editor at the same time, and give them the ability to set colours, text types and change the placement of the subtitles on screen. Frederic Petitpont, Co-Founder

and CTO, Newsbridge, said: “As much as 85% of online video views are happening with the sound off, and subtitling is an essential but time-consuming step in postproduction. Our customers tell us that one hour of video equals ten hours of manual subtitling work. With a subtitle editor now available in the Newsbridge Media Hub,

we can speed up their workflows and ensure maximum audience engagement with content.” “What’s unique about our subtitles feature is how closely it emulates human-generated captions,” Petitpont continued. “This is thanks to Newsbridge’s multimodal AI diarisation.” 7.B09

Q&A

CONGRATULATIONS ON THE PROMOTION WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR SEACHANGE?

I believe that for a technology vendor in our space, the range of opportunity is immense. We want to help content owners and operators to reach their audiences with relevant and engaging video services. Our goal is to evolve SeaChange into the leading platform provider that enables and facilitates video distribution and monetization, especially by providing advanced video ad insertion services to drive advertising revenues across linear TV, streaming and connected TV inventory.

WELCOME TO THE FAST CHANNEL MARKET WITH SEACHANGES NEW PRODUCT, XSTREAM

HOW DO YOU EXPECT THE VIDEO MARKET TO CHANGE AND HOW IS SEACHANGE PREPARED FOR IT?

We all recognize the trend towards video consumption via FAST channels and ad-funded streaming services on connected TVs. I believe that with our strong streaming and AdTech capabilities, we at SeaChange are well positioned to bring value to both content owners and OEMs with their TV OS providers. For content owners, we drive reach, distribution and viewing time per user, while we help the OEMs or OS providers to control and monetize the inventory within their system environment. The work we are doing with VIDAA, for whom we are building a multi-platform streaming and FAST service, is the first major milestone for SeaChange to further venture into this exciting space. We will continue to innovate our connected TV value proposition through product development and partnerships. We have for instance recently partnered with Source Digital to boost the value of inventory with unique Multiverse engagement services.

WORD ON THE STREET (MARKET ) IS THAT CONTENT AGGREGATION IS THE HOLY GRAIL FOR VIDEO BUSINESSES WHAT DO YOU THINK?

The need to aggregate content is mainly driven by the consumers’ demand to simplify the way they can discover content, and to avoid switching between multiple “walled garden” platforms. This, by the way, is not limited to video content. I believe that all types of digital content, e.g., cloud gaming, social media or eCommerce services, need to be conceptualized under this new paradigm. The question remains who has the market power to act as aggregator: I think next to the incumbent hegemon, the operators, our attention should be on the OEMs here. For SeaChange, this means that we continue to build our platforms in a generic manner: no limitations to media type or source and a UX concept to seamlessly access multimedia content across all device platforms.
