What are the biggest

challenges facing the media and entertainment industry? The media and entertainment industry, and the world, is dealing with an explosion of content. Video is the new normal, and new content consumption models have changed the industry. The Covid pandemic has created a new working paradigm, and media-driven organisations are creating and archiving more digital content than ever. Lastly, the threat of ransomware and strengthening cybersecurity is a top priority for all industries, including media and entertainment.

How is your company helping its customers to address the challenges faced by the media and entertainment industry? LTO tape helps media and entertainment companies reduce costs, reduce business risk and protect their most valuable asset – their content. Technologies like LTFS make it easier to access data stored on LTO tape, while advances in LTO technology provide improved storage density and the lowest

cost per terabyte. LTO-9 tape has the capacity to hold up to 18TB of uncompressed data, so as camera resolutions increase and the amount of content produced increases, your data storage infrastructure can keep up.

Which trends or themes do you expect to emerge during IBC2022? Companies are experimenting with AI and machine learning software to fi nd new ways to monetise their content, particularly adding information to large content archives. There is also an increasing focus on environmental, sustainability and governance (ESG) initiatives, which will cause media companies

to dig into their post-production workfl ows and infrastructure. And, of course, strengthening cybersecurity will continue to grow as a concern and priority. LTO tape can play a role in all of these trends.

What are your priorities for the next 12 months? The LTO Program’s priorities are to continue to educate the market on the benefi ts of using LTO tape for backups and long- term data archiving, as well as other use cases within media and entertainment, such as transporting data quickly between on-set and the studio. We want to bring forward the  benefi ts of LTO – particularly how sustainable

AI-POWERED NEXT-GEN ANALYSIS FOR PRO SPORTS RT Software

BY ADRIAN PENNINGTON

The latest 6.1 release of the Tactic Pro sports telestration package from RT Software includes ‘Next Gen Analysis’. This offers AI-powered pitch calibration, where a single click is all that’s required for the system to identify the pitch in the video clip and calibrate the graphics to the same perspective. A single click can automatically track a selected player, removing the need to laboriously set individual keyframes

it is relative to disk-based storage for long-term data storage – and continue to educate on why digital LTO tape should be considered as part of eery workfl ow.

What sets your company apart as a technology leader? LTO tape is the lowest cost storage medium, consumes almost no power, and offers a natural ‘air-gapped’ security to help protect against cyberthreats. It has been proven to be the most reliable storage for long-term data archiving, which is why it is the archive storage solution of choice for large cloud providers and the leading studios and post-production companies. 7.B04

Next Gen Analysis offers several AI-assisted features to accelerate an operator’s work

manually, claims the company. Mike Fredriksen, Commercial

Director, RT Software, said: “Next- gen graphics is all about using telestration to explain the more complex aspects of gameplay but

putting a greater emphasis on the use of more powerful graphics tools. Such expert insight appeals to sports fans, adds huge value to your content and differentiates your channel from your competitors.

“So, for example, a sequence that involves many keyframed objects that are linked together is tough to achieve in a typical broadcaster’s turnaround times. But these types of complex sequences are commonplace with analysts in the sports professional workplace, and this is a market where Tactic has many years of experience. What we have done is bring the power of the sports pro market to our broadcaster customers. We think this will be an eye opener when our customers see what is now possible.” 7.B11
