IBC2022 ACCELERATOR: 5G AND THE ARENA OF THE FUTURE FOR XR EVENTS
Enabling live audiences to interact with content is a key aim of the project
It was so successful that there really had to be a sequel. Following on from the 5G Location- Based Extended Realities project winning the IBC2021 Accelerator Project of the Year Award, it was perhaps inevitable that the combination of 5G and XR would be tackled once again. And so it has come to pass with a new Accelerator for 2022 entitled ‘5G and the Arena of the Future for XR Events’.
“It was very much conceived as a successor

While last year’s project made impressive progress in terms of empowering the location-based entertainment experience within esports, AR and VR, there was a greater emphasis this time on “working out how to make the viewing experience emotionally connected to what we are creating. That calls for a focus on the storytelling aspect and the technological elements as well.” Like its predecessor, 5G and the Arena of the Future for XR Events draws on the input of leading broadcast service providers and vendors. oining odafone as hampions are ado ear arner ros. iscoery AN port lympic roadcasting erices ings ollege London and Production Park. Indeed, as well as being applicable to audiences congregating in the kind of purpose-built esports venues that are increasingly ubiquitous, it’s also intended that the resulting platform should ultimately be deployed in arenas and stadiums. “The time constraints meant that we couldn’t achieve [the latter] aspect by the time we had to deliver in August, but certainly that is part of the grand ision confi rms ila.

It should be able to be packaged for broadcasting, streaming and so on. Having an outcome like this would be a great result for creators and audiences, and would represent a major opportunity for live audiences to interact with content.”
