When visiting other countries do not assume that the catering quality is the same as in the United States or other reputable countries - IT'S NOT! There are a large number of cities/ countries around the world where conditions are so terrible that you may have to bring your entire supply with you.


Often international catering can be quite a challenging if you do not speak the language of the country you are visiting. Being bilingual is a tremendous asset in alleviating this communication barrier.


➡ Make sure all salads and fruits are washed and dried properly. Follow Food Safety Guidelines as not all countries are as strict as the USA.


➡ Drink and serve only bottled water. Do not serve questionable ice. Learn how to add bottled water to the aircraft tanks if necessary.


➡ Always ensure the ice drawers are sanitized between uses.


➡ Trying to order your catering to someone who doesn’t speak English can be quite challenging. There is only one way to overcome this problem when you're not able to communicate and that is with magazine photographs or with recipe photos or ...


➡ Carry several photo copies of the menu items you require so you can keep them on file when needed again. If you have only one copy, get extra color copies, most hotels have office work stations now available to guests, or a photocopy store such as Kinko's.


➡ Keep your copies organized and in a binder or on your iPad with categories to easy access. Separate them by classifications of appetizers, light snacks, breakfast, lunch, dinner, desserts, etc.


➡ If one of these routes becomes a normal arrival and departure for you, the catering company or what ever company you are using for your catering supplies will become accustomed to your requests and needs.


➡ Kwik Point Reference cards are an excellent tool to use as well. All you have to do is point to the designated illustrated pictures and you can basically order catering or carry a conversation.
