• Regulating Ireland’s greenhouse gas emissions. • Providing environmental education and guidance. • Developing environmental research. • Ensuring that the people of Ireland are protected from the harmful effects of radiation.
Bord Bia’s Origin Green initiative (origingreen.ie) aims to help promote sustainability by enabling Ireland’s farmers and producers to reduce their environmental impact and enhance their effect on society.
Global Sustainable Development
In September 2015, 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were adopted by world leaders as part of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The aim of the SDGs is to encourage all of the world’s countries to protect the planet and to promote prosperity for all people. Each goal has specific targets to be achieved by 2030.
Countries are not required to meet the goals by law, but they are expected to establish sustainable development plans and policies.
In order to meet global sustainability goals, governments, businesses and individuals must play a part.
