JUNIOR CYCLE BUSINESS STUDIES Surveys and questionnaires can be carried out:
• Face-to-face • By telephone • Online, using platforms such as SurveyMonkey, MySurvey Ireland or Irish Opinions.
ANALYSING THE RESULTS When the sample has completed the survey or questionnaire, the answers are analysed.
The answers to closed questions may be presented as percentages. For example, if 50 people completed the Happy Cow Ice Cream Survey and 28 of them answered that they usually buy ice cream at the supermarket then a report on the survey could state ‘56% of people surveyed usually buy ice cream at a supermarket.’
Number of people with same answer Number of people in sample
× 100 = %
If 32 of the 50 people in the sample answer ‘1–2 times a month’ for question 2, what percentage of the sample buys ice cream this often?
The results of surveys and questionnaires are often presented using a graph or chart, such as a pie chart, bar chart or line graph. Presenting information about a target market in this way makes it easy to spot trends and make comparisons.
