The group of people who own a co-operative are known as its members and the business is run for their benefit. Members usually have a close connection to the business as its producers, customers or employees. Every member has equal say (one vote each) and profits are shared with members according to their input.

These members can work together in a number of ways. For example, they may co-operate to buy equipment together, set up a factory or storehouse or hire people to sell their goods.
