A presentation involves communicating information to an audience. At times you will be asked to present your work to the class, individually or as part of a group. Presentation skills are important in the classroom and in the business world.
The following steps will help you to give confident, engaging presentations.
Step 1 Write down the aim or goal of the presentation. This will help you to stay on track.
Step 2 Research the topic that you are preparing the presentation on and check that all facts are correct. Order the information in a clear and logical sequence for presenting.
Step 3 Be aware of the time you have for the presentation.
Step 4 Use any tools available to make your presentation interesting, such as PowerPoint, audio clips and video clips.
Step 5 Practise and time the presentation. On the day, ensure that you stand tall and speak in a clear voice. Make eye contact with your audience and be enthusiastic about your subject. Remember to introduce yourself and the topic you will be speaking about. If you are in a group, introduce your team.
Step 6 After the presentation, evaluate what went well and identify areas you can improve on for future presentations.
PREPARING CHARTS AND GRAPHS
Charts and graphs make it easier to understand and analyse information. They are useful for showing patterns, trends and relationships at a glance.
