We will
learn more about how businesses get feedback in chapter 14
GO Feedback
Businesses often ask their customers for feedback so that they know how to improve. Likewise, the feedback you get in the classroom will help you to develop your skills.
When working in pairs or groups, you may be required to give feedback to others. This is known as peer assessment. When you evaluate other people’s work, it is important to be as helpful as possible.
When you are giving feedback, keep FISH in mind.
• Friendly: feedback should always be given in a friendly manner. This helps to promote co-operation and avoid conflict. Always point out the positives in a person’s work as well as any negatives.
• Informative: feedback should provide useful information that will help the other person improve their work in future.
• Specific: feedback should be clear and refer to certain aspects of the person’s work. Being specific helps the person receiving this feedback identify what they
are good at and what they could improve.
• Honest: feedback has to be honest. Honesty will allow the person receiving feedback to get a clear picture of their strengths and weaknesses – but always
remember to give your feedback in a friendly manner. 5
