Sample Answers
1. Two types of tourist region are areas of natural beauty such as the lakes of Killarney and beaches and coastal areas, such as Tramore in Co. Waterford.
2. Two impacts of tourism on the physical world include destruction of scenery and damage to flora and fauna.
Tourists need accommodation and this leads to the building of hotels, holiday homes and apartments. These can be an eyesore and are often poor quality buildings which destroy the natural beauty that made the area a tourist attraction in the first place. Tourism also impacts greatly on the flora and fauna in tourist areas. Animals are forced from their natural habitat. The unique flowers that grow in the Burren are trampled on and picked by hikers.
3. Tourism impacts on transport in a positive way. It can lead to the development of better transport in an isolated area so that tourists can access that region. Roads can be greatly improved while regional airports can be developed to help tourists, therefore improving transport.
Transport also has an impact on tourism. Access is the key to tourism, and people will travel to areas if they can get there without any problems. If the access is good, tourism will prosper.
