Directions are usually given using the compass cardinal points of the compass: north, south, east and west. In between the cardinal points are other compass points. Look at the compass in Figure 1.12 to familiarise yourself with the directions on it. North is always shown on Ordnance Survey maps, see Figure 1.13.
When referring to direction, remember to note whether you are travelling towards an area or coming from that area.
