Many aerial photographs will show rural areas as well as urban areas, with the rural area often appearing in the background of the photograph. From such photographs we can sometimes identify rural patterns of settlement: linear, clustered and dispersed.
Rural land uses, such as agriculture and forestry, can also be seen on aerial photographs. You may see cattle grazing in a field, bales of hay or silage, ploughed fields, fields that have recently been harvested, grain silos and areas covered in forest.
