In this section, you will learn: zz the factors that influence Ireland’s climate.
Cool temperate oceanic North Atlantic Drift
Ireland has a cool temperate oceanic climate. Ireland’s climate (temperatures, precipitation, hours of daylight), as well as the natural vegetation and wildlife, is influenced by a number of different factors.
Latitude – distance from the equator
Ireland’s latitude between 51° and 56° north of the equator influences temperature, seasons and hours of daylight. During the summer months Ireland is tilted towards the sun, which is why we have longer hours of daylight and higher temperatures. In winter, it’s cooler with shorter hours of daylight because we are tilted away from the sun.
