Multi-faceted agent for squalene delivery

The triterpene hydrocarbon squalene is the singular precursor for the biosynthesis of all plant and animal sterols, including cholesterol and the steroid hormones in the human body. All plants and animals, including humans, produce Squalene as a biochemical intermediate. This common lipid is one of

several produced by sebaceous gland and has been identified as a natural component of human sebum. Not surprisingly, therefore, Squalene has a role in topical skin lubrication and protection and both Squalane and Squalene are used in a variety of cosmetics at various concentrations. Animal studies indicate Squalene is slowly absorbed through the skin, while both compounds are poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. The acute animal toxicity of these ingredients by all routes is low. Formulations containing Squalene indicate it is not a significant human skin irritant, sensitizer or contact allergen.

In cosmetics and personal care products,

Squalene is used in the

formulation of a wide variety of

products including bath oils, hair products, eye makeup, makeup

foundations, lipstick, suntan and sunscreen products, body powders, nail products and in cleansing, moisturizing, and skin care products. Squalene is an excellent skin moisturizer. Wilshire Technologies (WTI) has

introduced high purity, cost- effective Amaranth oil as a naturally occurring vehicle for the delivery of vegetal Squalene.

“Amaranth oil with its naturally occurring high content of Squalene and other beneficial constituents (unsaturated free-fatty acids, tocopherols, etc.), avoids the high cost and regulatory issues associated with pharmaceutical grade squalene while providing an ideal vehicle for the topical application of this valued cosmetic ingredient,” said Joe San Filippo, PhD Technology Development at WTI.

New results for cellulite efficacy

Launched on the market in 2012, Dimpless from Robertet is the outcome of several years of research. At the start of its development was the objective to highlight the anti-fibrotic properties of superoxide dismutase (SOD) in order to tackle cellulite. In the case of Dimpless, the cocktail of bioactive molecules contained in the melon concentrate leads to a synergistic action on cellulite, targeting not only fibrosis of connective tissue, but also lipolysis and hypertrophy of adipocytes.

It is thanks to this original mode of action that Dimpless has proven itself in a recent new study. Dimpless was shown to significantly reduce subcutaneous fat: -25% on average after 90 days; accelerate the reduction in hip and waist measurements: -43% on average after 90 days; visible results from the 1st month and increased efficiency from the 3rd month. Dimpless is one of the first

oral ingredients for cellulite treatment; it is also available in organic quality and may have potential for topical application.
