indicating its shininess or matte appearance. xPL at 2% significantly increased the radiance of the skin by 31.2% (Figure 8). Digital pictures were acquired using a Visia-CR
(Canfield Scientific) at baseline (D0) and after 28 days (D28). Skin evenness refers to the uniformity of skin colour and texture across the face or other areas of the body. An even skin tone is characterized by a
consistent colour without patches, redness, or discolouration. xPL at 2% significantly improved the evenness of the skin complexion by 5.8% (Figure 9).
Clinical assessments Evaluations were performed by the experimenter using the clinical scores. The positive effect of the product on the evaluated parameter was confirmed if more than 50% of the subjects showed an improvement. xPL at 2% improved skin

of the volunteers showed improvement when treated with a 2% of xPL at D28. The beneficial effects of xPL on three
volunteer’s face are shown below, demonstrating reduced colour spots and an increase in the skin radiance (Figure 10).
Self-assessment questionnaire Table 1 lists all the results of the self-assessment questionnaires completed at the end of the study (D28) by the enrolled subjects. The data are expressed as the % of subjects who gave the same opinion among those proposed. In summary, the main benefits were found
to be: radiance improvement for 90% of the volunteers; skin complexion that is more even for 100% of the volunteers; and skin that looks healthier for 100% of the volunteers.

Discussions and conclusions We have reviewed the interesting properties of an extract from Polysiphonia lanosa (L.)
T.A.Chr., a red alga found, for example, in Brittany, France. It is an epiphyte, growing on the brown alga Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) Le Jol. Polysiphonia lanosa is also a source of
interesting molecules for skincare. The compound 3-Hydroxy-2-(α-D-mannopyranosyloxy)- propanoic acid, also known as digeneaside, is a particular acidic carbohydrate that was identified
