SKIN MICROBIOME 41 a Initial conditions b Initial conditions
Thus, the consideration of these two ratios can be good indicators of the scalp heath, and might be pertinent biomarkers for the diagnosis of the dandruff condition. In this context, Codif laboratories have developed Capibiome, an active ingredient dedicated to dandruff and itchy scalps, which is able to rebalance scalp ecology. It is a combination of different

ingredients aimed, on the one hand, to soothe the dry and sensitive scalps, and on the other hand, to provide them a variety of nutrients to ensure the biodiversity and balance of their microbiota. The ingredient has been tested over 4 weeks at 0.6% on a group of women presenting with a dry and sensitive scalp. Before and after the treatment with Capibiome, skin microbiota of the volunteers was sampled, and a clinical evaluation of scalp condition was conducted by a dermatologist. Just as EPS Seapur, Capibiome can be considered as a microbiota-friendly active ingredient, as it has no visible impact on the microbiota diversity and composition (Fig 4). P. acnes and S. epidermidis are the dominant bacterial species of the scalp microbiota before and after the treatment with Capibiome. As expected, the fungal component of the scalp before and after treatment is largely dominated by Malassezia species (96% of the total number of sequences at D0 and 98% after 4 weeks of treatment). Before and after treatment with the ingredient, overall similar profiles are observed: M. restricta is the dominant fungal species, and M. globosa is present in a lower extent. A more detailed analysis, centered on these 4
