18 IN-COSMETICS GLOBAL

trajectory of growth, we’re excited to see the event go from strength-to-strength every year. We can’t wait to show you what we have in store for 2020!” For more information and to receive the latest updates, register to attend via the website https://www.in- cosmetics.com/register

Alive with colour At the end of last year, Pantone announced its colour of the year for 2020: Classic Blue. We spoke to Lorna Radford, managing director of Enkos Developments Ltd and official advisor for in-cosmetics Global 2020, about what this means for the colour cosmetics industry and what we can expect to see at the show when it returns to Barcelona in March.

PC: How do you see this colour shaping and influencing major trends in the industry? Lorna Radford: It will be interesting to see if Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue inspires more beauty brands to develop new lipsticks in bolder shades. Classic Blue is a great shade in terms of pigment availability for colour cosmetics. For example, combinations of Ultramarines Blue and Ferric Ferrocyanide could be a good option to create Classic Blue eye shadows. There is a large focus on sustainability and natural ingredients in the cosmetics industry at the moment, but it is difficult to obtain a stable blue colour from plant-derived sources – I am therefore intrigued to see how suppliers of natural cosmetic ingredients will be inspired by Classic Blue at in-cosmetics Global 2020.

PC: How important is this announcement in shaping the colour cosmetics industry? LR: A lot of cosmetic ingredient manufacturers offer trends forecasts to help inspire formulators with new ideas for product development, and the trends

ingredients that help to reduce cortisol (stress hormone) levels in the skin or that reduce skin discomfort such as itching sensations or skin redness.

forecasts from pigment manufacturers are often influenced by Pantone’s Color of the Year. The colour cosmetics industry is also closely tied with the fashion industry, which will undoubtedly be influenced by Classic Blue – this could mean that we are about to see a surge in blue makeup products over the next year, particularly on the runway.

PC: Can you provide any wider examples of applications within the cosmetics industry? LR: One of Pantone’s descriptions for Classic Blue is: “Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, Pantone 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge.” Tranquility and wellness tie in closely with current skin care trends. Lots of beauty brands are looking to develop products focused on reducing stress, and cosmetic ingredient suppliers are responding to this demand by launching new ingredients that help to calm the skin. I expect we will see an array of interesting new ingredients at in- cosmetics Global 2020 that focus on reducing stress – for example active

February 2020

Non-invasive lip fillers and skin lifting cosmetic solutions are trending more than ever. To meet the increasing consumer need, Akott presents two relevant non- invasive topical alternatives to answer such hot trends. Fenugreek has long been used in traditional medicine with several health benefits, such as detoxification and reduction of inflammation. Akott selected organic Fenugreek sprouts to develop a potent lipophilic active that induce adipocytes differentiation and lipid accumulation in vitro, while significant lip volumising action has been instrumentally proved on 20 volunteers during dedicated clinical studies. This ingredient can be easily incorporated in skin care and makeup products. Microalgae are shining in skin care, too. Packed with essential amino acids, minerals, polyphenols and carbohydrates, they are also gaining momentum as a superfood. Nannochloropsis granulata is the marine macroalgae present in Akott’s new concentrated hydrophilic active. This ingredient boosts the expression of key
