COMPANY PROFILE LIPOID KOSMETIK

Lipoid Kosmetik is a leading manufacturer of natural raw materials for the cosmetic and personal care industry. High-quality botanical actives and extracts (Lipoid Kosmetik AG, Switzerland) as well as purified natural phospholipids

(Lipoid GmbH, Germany) are part of the sophisticated portfolio. As a pioneer in these fields, Lipoid Kosmetik has gained an outstanding reputation in the global cosmetic industry over

the last 50 years. This long-standing expertise, in combination with the exceptional quality of the portfolio, enables its customers to develop and market innovative, functional, and natural cosmetic products meeting the highest standards.

Phospholipids are highly versatile materials of natural origin, which confer both technical and physiological advantages upon their formulations. They number among the body’s own building blocks and are essential constituents of the human cell membrane. For this reason, they are highly biocompatible and gentle, making them ideal for use in superior high-end skin-care products. Owing to their amphiphilic nature and their ability to interact with human skin, phospholipids can serve as active ingredients for skin protection and skin rejuvenation, as carrier systems for cosmetic active ingredients, and as skin- friendly emulsifier systems. Depending upon the specific application, preference is given to saturated (hydrogenated) or unsaturated phospholipids

of plant origin: Hydrogenated phospholipids are excellent emulsifying agents, especially for o/w emulsions and leave the skin feeling

exceptionally soft. Moreover, hydrogenated phospholipids assist the natural protective barrier in repairing and reconstituting our skin. They mimic the intercellular lamellar structures of the stratum corneum and form a protective layer which has been shown to reduce transepidermal loss of water. Unsaturated phospholipids are used as carrier systems for active cosmetic ingredients or as active ingredients themselves.

Encapsulation of cosmetic ingredients by phospholipids facilitates more efficient, controlled transport of cosmetic actives into the skin. For this purpose Lipoid Kosmetik‘s product portfolio includes both pre-loaded carrier systems – the liposome range for hydrophilic actives – as well as PhytoSolve® technology for lipophilic actives. Lipoid Kosmetik offers a variety of empty carrier systems for encapsulation of individual actives: the Natipide® series for hydrophilic actives and the PHOSAL® series for lipophilic actives. Many of the phospholipid products are based on non-GMO soybean or sunflower lecithin, making them suitable for

COSMOS-approved formulations. Phospholipids are not only produced from renewable natural raw materials but are also completely biodegradable. This makes them a perfect fit for today’s zeitgeist, which is characterized by the ever-increasing importance of sustainability.
