ADAPTING TO COVID-19 CHAIR MANUFACTURERS

Gareth Treharne, PST

What range of products are you now offering to help casinos in the post-closure COVID environment?

PST immediately recognised that a rapid response in terms of development was going to be key in restoring the gaming industry economy. Adapting to the challenges posed by global lockdowns and social distancing, manufacturing was modified to create a range of safety products adhering to strict guidelines, which would enable the industry to re-open when advised. Innovative social safety screens constructed to meet the individual needs of gaming’s diverse locations were designed and went into immediate production complemented by additional safety masks, shields and sanitary stations to enhance safety within locations. Both the Safety Screen Pro and Essential are available in either 8mm frosted Perspex or 6mm toughened clear or smoked Optifloat glass.

Whilst we don’t know the longevity of these products, how important was it to update your product offering to help venues reopen again? When did you start developing the products?

It is becoming increasingly evident that social distancing and subsequent safety measures imposed will be effective for the foreseeable future. A cursory evaluation of the gaming industry in its entirety highlighted the need to address safety issues was paramount. Te industry was simply not going to resume without introducing products specifically designed to protect customers in gaming environments. As lockdown measures spread the PST development team considered how best to address the industry’s specific needs and the range of safety screens was designed, created and manufactured in record time.

Did you work with a specialist partner or develop your own range? How did this process work in light of the restrictions?

PST developed its own range from design concept through to manufacturing. However, all product ranges are devised in consultation with customers to ensure every specific requirement is met. Digital meetings soon became the norm and research and development was enhanced by the remote technology which delivered valuable global input across all gaming sectors.

How did your customer base respond to the new products? How many installs have you had? Any notable projects?
