Hoiana Suncity Tipped for Big Things

JAPAN –Wakayama Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka has said it is ‘irresponsible’ for casino opponents to try and stop the prefecture moving forward with its plan to host an integrated resort, operated by either Hong Kong’s Suncity Group or Canadian investment firm Clairvest Group.

He told a residents group standing against the plan: “It is irresponsible to future generations to stop a bid because you may dislike it. If you disagree, you have to offer a counter alternative to Wakayama’s revival or it is just an opinion. The national and prefectural governments are thinking about sufficient measures to dispel the anxieties of those who have signed the petition, and I will strive to gain their understanding.”

AUTRALIA – Ainsworth will be part of the new commercial and after-sales service structure for Novomatic products in the APAC region. Novomatic has signed a non-exclusive distribution agreement with Ainsworth, whereby the Australian company will act as a sales and service unit for NOVOMATIC products in the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand.

Newly appointed Ainsworth VP Business Development & Sales Asia Pacific, Robert Dijkstra, will be representing both brands. For the past five years prior to his new role, Robert represented Novomatic in the Asia-Pacific region, working closely with Ainsworth.

Novomatic’s Sales Manager Southeast Asia, Michael Barsin, will also join Ainsworth as of October 1st, 2020 continuing to serve the region from his Hong Kong base, representing both brands.

The Novomatic product suite for the Asian region consists of slot machines, market-focused games and multi-game editions, ETGs, casino management and media systems, Linked Progressives as well as sports betting solutions. Ainsworth looks forward to introducing their impressive new suite of A-Star cabinets into the region, further complimenting its current portfolio of stand-alone, link progressive and multi-games.

“By bringing the two companies together we can increase the diversity of offerings to our customer base through the one channel. I am looking forward to overseeing this progressive development and believe it will benefit all stakeholders”, said Robert Dijkstra. This new distribution and after-sales service structure will enhance the service and support network for the installed machine base, provide a strong commercial structure for existing and new customers and accelerate the expansion of Novomatic and Ainsworth products in the Asia- Pacific region.

Suncity’s Vietnam integrated resort project, Hoiana, is being tipped to generate annual EBITDA of US$470m

Suncity’s Vietnam integrated resort project, Hoiana, is being tipped for big things by research firm Smartkarma, who believes the casino will generate annual EBITDA of US$470m, equating to 70 per cent of NagaCorp’s NagaWorld in Cambodia. It expects Hoiana to generate GGR of US$2.35bn per year based on the performance of a VIP room Suncity already operates at Crowne Plaza in Da Nang.

Smartkarma analyst Michael Ting said: “We estimate that Suncity generated roughly US$1.4m GGR per table, per month at Crowne Plaza. Extrapolating this to the 140 tables at Hoiana Phase 1, we estimate that the property can generate roughly US$196m of GGR per month or US$2.35bn per year.

“Applying a 20 per cent EBITDA margin (double that of Macau), we estimate that Hoiana Phase 1 at full ramp can achieve EBITDA of US$470m per year which is at 70 per cent of NagaCorp. We are positive on Hoiana on a longer-term basis.”

Suncity Group opens local office to promote its Wakayama Integrated Casino Resort project

Asian junket investor Suncity Group has now opened an office in Wakayama that it will use as a promotional base in its attempts to land one of Japan’s first integrated resorts with its Wakayama IR2.0 concept.

Te newly established Wakayama office will show concept videos and a scale model of the project. Suncity has said it would spend between HK$30bn and HK$35bn (US$3.8bn to US$4.5bn) on an Integrated Resort in its Wakayama, in the Kansai region, on Honshū island’s Kii Peninsula.

Suncity CEO Alvin Chau said the vision was for a ‘unique project combining Wakayama Prefecture’s historical tradition, natural landscape and cultural essence.’ It will offer 2,600 rooms and villas, restaurants and a sky lounge, hot springs and spas, a

substantial exhibition venue, indoor sports facilities and boat tours to nearby coastal towns and tourist attractions.

Mr. Chau said: “We will present to the world the unique charm of Wakayama. I believe our ideas are in line with what the Japanese government is looking for in regional development Wakayama is rich in Japanese tradition and culture and has an abundance of nature in the mountains and sea. We are planning a resort that incorporates these charms. We will challenge regional revitalization centering on integrated resort facilities. We will promote the development of international tourism cities that make the most of the assets of Wakayama Prefecture, the nature, culture, history and people’s activities focusing on integrated resort facilities.”

Hoiana had a soft opening in June generating a US$1.5m loss during its three days of operation. It has since ‘recorded positive gross gaming revenue in both July and August.’

Te Hoiana story began in 2016 when its ground breaking ceremony marked the commencement of the most ambitious tourism development in Central Vietnam. Four years in the making, Hoiana is now ready to introduce some of its first operational facilities during an Operational Preview. During this period, guests can enjoy cutting-edge entertainment and gaming facilities by Hoiana Suncity, play at Vietnam’s first Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed Hoiana Shores Golf Club or indulge in the first of four luxurious hotels managed by Rosewood Hotel Group – the Hoiana Hotel & Suites.

Major highlights in Hoiana Phase 1 include four hotels offering over 1,000 rooms, suites and villas, including the all-suite Hoiana Hotel & Suites that offers 24-hour butler service.
