UK – Flutter has confirmed that it has appointed Tom Watson, former Opposition Deputy Leader and vocal advocate for gambling reform, as an advisor to bring his expertise and challenge to the business as it continues its commitment to lead a race to the top in safer gambling best practice.
The appointment has been described as akin to appointing Greta Thunberg to head of public relations for BP. However, Flutter has said that Mr. Watson will be immersing himself in all areas of the business from the shop floor and online platforms to training, marketing and safer gambling operations. EU – The European Commission has opened a preliminary investigation into Visa’s rules regarding staged digital wallets. Initiated in June, the probe was briefly referenced in Visa’s most recent regulatory filing. EU concerns centre around the view that fintech start-ups are pushing the rules too far through a desire to offer ultra-speedy payments, making it difficult for Visa to check for money laundering and fraud. The filing also reveals a lawsuit lodged in the UK by Euronet, alleging that certain rules affecting ATM access fees in Poland, Czech Republic and Greece breach competion laws. Euronet is seeking damages, costs, and injunctive relief to prevent Visa and Mastercard from enforcing the rules.
ARMENIA – Digitain has signed a deal with Spinmatic that will see the developer's video slot games integrated into Digitain’s platform. Te Gambling Commission has published further data showing how the easing of the Covid-19 lockdown has impacted gambling behaviour in Great Britain. Te data reflects March, April, May, June and July and covers both online and in person gambling. Te latest data includes consumer research and data from LBOs found on Britain’s high streets.
