New Jersey Continues to Boom Online


Online gambling revenues have hit new heights once again, but only two Atlantic City casinos outperformed pre-pandemic performance.


For 2024 so far, collective market revenue for the three months to the end of March came in at $1.55bn, showing a 15.7 per cent improvement on 2023.

INDIANA – Churchill Downs has opened its Terre Haute Casino Resort in Terre Haute, Indiana. The $290m investment includes a casino floor with 1,000 slot machines, 36 table games and a state- of-the-art sportsbook. The 400,000-square-foot entertainment venue also features regionally inspired bars and restaurants.


The development of Terre Haute Casino Resort generated nearly 1,000 construction jobs and approximately 550 permanent full-time and part- time jobs. CDI officially broke ground on the entertainment venue in June 2022.


US– Following the renewal of its United States partnership with the National Hockey League in March 2024, Caesars is now prominently displaying its official sponsorship lock-up logo and partnership designation with the NHL across all of Caesars Digital’s Caesars-branded iGaming platforms.

Play’n GO is now licensed in six US states and is aiming to be active in every regulated market, in the US and around the world.

ILLINOIS – Fanatics Betting and Gaming, a subsidiary of Fanatics Holdings, closed on the final state, Illinois, in its previously announced acquisition of the US businesses of PointsBet.


PointsBet Holdings confirmed receipt of the final instalment of the headline purchase price of $225m and has transferred the remaining entities to FBG, including all of the remaining entities that make up PointsBet’s United States sports wagering, advance-deposit wagering and iGaming operations, Banach Technology, a copy of the PointsBet platform and a licence to use that platform.

Online gambling rocketed to new heights in March in New Jersey increasing by 20 per cent to $197.2m, prompting an overall gambling high of $526.6m for the Garden State.


Revenue from land-based gambling in New Jersey came in at $239.8m, up 4.9 per cent year- on-year and 14.1 per cent from last month. Whilst that total was better, slightly, than the collectively total pre-pandemic, only two casinos performed better than they did in the March before the pandemic.


Slots were up 4.8 per cent to $172.7m whilst tables were up 4.9 per cent at $67m. In terms in land-based results, Borgata led the way again with GGR of $56.5m , marking a fall of 8.1 per cent. Hard Rock was up 11 per cent at $44.3m, whilst Ocean was also up by 17.6 per cent at $40.6m.


Small gains were felt at Harrah’s, up two per cent at $21m and Tropicana who saw an increase of 2.5 per cent to $19.8. Caesars enjoyed an eight per cent increase taking its total to $18.5m whilst Golden Nugget was up 11.4 per cent at $13.6. Resorts enjoyed a six per cent increase to $13.4m


and Bally’s saw an 11.2 per cent rise to $11.7m.


Online betting continued to grab the headlines though, up 19.9 per cent to $197.2m. Online gaming generated $42.6m with online slots up 19.4 per cen to $194.8m. Golden Nugget led the online market with revenue of $57.1m. Resorts Digital came in second placed with $48.9m, followed by Borgata with $43.8m.


Whilst sports betting revenue dropped by 3.6 per cent to $89.7m, this was a 32.7 per cent improvement from February’s $67.6m, a month earlier. Meadowlands led the betting market with partners FanDuel, PointsBet and SuperBook. For 2024 so far, collective market revenue for the three months to the end of March came in at $1.55bn, showing a 15.7 per cent improvement on the same point in 2023. Land- based remains pretty level at $656.1m whilst sports betting is up 22 per cent.

Nevada Aristocrat completes NeoGames acquisition


Te purchase of NeoGames now complete, Aristocrat is to combine Neo with its existing Anaxi division to create Aristocrat Interactive. Moti Malul, CEO of NeoGames, will take on the role of CEO of Aristocrat Interactive, reporting to Aristocrat CEO Trevor Croker.


Aristocrat said the acquisition ‘materially advances Aristocrat’s ‘build and buy’ strategy, positioning the Group to compete in attractive online RMG verticals globally.’ It added: “Te acquisition allows Aristocrat to leverage its world-class gaming content, customer relationships and expanding capabilities across an even broader range of channels and geographies, adding further to the Group’s resilience, and accelerating future growth.”

SIS (Sports Information Services) has enhanced its existing partnership with global sports technology provider Genius Sports to extend the distribution rights of its esports products to the US market.


Te updated agreement ensures Genius Sports can now deliver SIS’ H2H Global Gaming League game portfolio of more than 150,000 annual matches to its comprehensive US sportsbook network, significantly increasing the sports simulation product’s audience reach.
