Removing the current trek from the Strip with an access link from Caesars would be the cherry on top of the icing for the Rio’s new owner, Dreamscape.

Whilst carrying out a $340m refurbishment of the Rio Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, new owner Dreamscape is also looking at ways to boost visitation by building a landscaped pedestrian bridge to better connect the resort to the Las Vegas Strip.

Currently to visit the Rio, customers must either go by road or walk for ten minutes along a freeway overpass. Eric Birnbaum, CEO of Dreamscape, who bought the Rio Hotel in 2019 for $516.3m, wants to link the property directly to Caesars Palace with a bridge over the I-15. Mr Birnbaum likened it to New York City’s elevated High Line.

Speaking to news outlet KLAS he said.“We are very much in the middle of those conversations with all the county commissioners, with a lot of different constituents. Tis is an area that we think, you know, has a reason to exist and we want to market that.

His vision is to build a ‘neighbourhood’ to the west of the freeway in conjunction with neighbouring casinos such as Te Palms and Te Gold Coast to develop an attraction off Te Strip

Nevada

Eureka Casinos is commemorating 25 years of business in Mesquite, Nevada, by committing itself to a $40m first phase of a $100m long-term property-wide reinvestment at Eureka Casino Resort.

Te multi-phase development plan is the culmination of nearly two years of research and work between Eureka’s senior team with architects, developers, and designers.

Te project kicked off with the expansion and remodelling of its steakhouse. Following that is a comprehensive remodel of the hotel and an expansion and renovation of the entire casino floor and restaurant outlets. Te business will also bring the immediately surrounding acreage into the development pipeline.

in the same way Fremont Street has brought tourism to Downtown.

“Why can’t the same thing happen west of the Strip here, and create a real neighbourhood, and create a destination?” Mr Birnbaum said. “I can’t get into all the details, but suffice to say we, along with some of our neighbours in this general area, would love to bring and revitalise this whole neighbourhood.”

Rio is undergoing a property-wide, multi-phase transformation with the 2,500-room hotel preparing to transition into the Destination by Hyatt brand this autumn. Phase one of the hotel’s two-phase renovation is expected to be completed in autumn 2024, when the reimagined all-suite hotel will move into Hyatt’s Independent Collection under the Destination by Hyatt brand.

Phase two will include a full renovation and redesign of the hotel’s 1,012 Masquerade Tower guest rooms and associated public areas. Eradicating the current trek from the Strip with an easy access link from Caesars would very much be the cherry on top of the icing.

New Jersey Lawmaker supports lawsuit to ban casino smoking

An influential legislator has gone public in his support of a suit looking to ban smoking in Atlantic City casinos, initiated in the State Superior Court in Mercer County, saying that New Jersey has failed to protect casino workers.

Te filing looks to challenge the exemption that has allowed smoking on casino floors, contradicting the Smoke Free Air Act’s intent. It was filed against Governor Phillip Murphy and Health Commissioner Dr. Kaitlin Baston and claims that the State’s Smoke-Free Air Pact is unconstitutional as it allows casino to be exempt.

In response to the lawsuit filed in State Superior Court in Mercer County that seeks to eliminate the legal loophole that has allowed smoking to continue on the floors

of Atlantic City casinos, Senator Joe Vitale, Chair of the Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee, said: “Since the minute we passed the Smoke Free Air Act, I have been working to close the loophole that excluded casino workers from this fundamental protection.

“Troughout this fight I met countless brave men and women who have stood up, time and time again, to demand justice for themselves and their coworkers. Today is their day.

“Te State of New Jersey has failed casino workers in Atlantic City for 18 years. We let a false argument about economics subjugate our duty to protect the people we serve and in doing so, we allowed corporations to poison their employees for nearly two decades.
