Five operators pitch for Petersburg Casino
Oklahoma - Chickasaw opens Lakecrest Lakecrest Casino and Hotel, the biggest casino yet from the Chickasaw Nation tribe in Oklahoma, has opened with a 70,000 sq. ft. gaming floor that will house about 1,000 electronic games, eight table games, and a restaurant and bar.
Lakecrest Hotel and Casino, located on State Highway 70, two miles east of I-35 exit 29, boasts a 58,000 sq. ft. hotel with 89 rooms, as well as a resort-style pool, business center and conference space. The Carter County development will employ more than 200 people and have an estimated $3.7m annual payroll. Studies conducted on the Chickasaw Nation’s behalf estimate a total economic impact on the regional economy in year one of about $102.4m.
Texas - New casino resort for Polk County The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas has announced exciting plans to build a brand-new casino resort on its Tribal lands in Polk County. While specific details are still being finalised, the new resort may offer a variety of amenities including: a state-of-the- art casino floor, hotel accommodations, and diverse dining and entertainment options.
The Tribe has engaged the architectural firm FFK.R to design the new resort. FFKR is known for its innovative and creative designs. The Tribe is confident the firm will create a truly exceptional destination. In addition to the new casino resort, the Tribe is planning an extensive remodel to its existing Ischoopa/One Stop Convenience Store and Truck Stop. The remodel will include adding electronic bingo machines. The tribe already operates Naskila Casino, pictured, in Livingston, offering more than 800 electronic games.
Pennsylvania - Revenues reach new heights Gambling revenue reached a record high in Pennsylvania with the Gaming Control Board reporting that the sector as a whole generated $554.6m in March, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.6 per cent. March was the second time in three months that Pennsylvania set a new record, following the $534.2m generated in December 2023.
Slots in land-based casinos were up 1.1 per cent to $227.9m to $34.3m in slot revenue. The biggest land-based earner was Hollywood Casino at Penn National in Grantsville, which generated $88.2m, marking an increase of 8.9 per cent. In Second place was Valley Forge Casino Resort in King of Prussia with GGR of $88m, up 28.4 per cent. Parx Casino in Philadelphia came in third place with $59.5m although its revenues fell 1.5 per cent over the year.
Online gaming increased by 29 per cent, accounting for $191.1m of the total with slot revenue coming in at $135.5m, an increase of 29.3 per cent, and table gaming increased by 31.2 per cent to $53.1m.

Te City of Petersburg in Virginia invited the five operators competing for the fifth casino license in Virginia to make their case at a town hall meeting.
Responding to the Petersburg City Council’s latest Request for Proposal for a casino in Petersburg, Te Cordish Companies, Penn Entertainment, Bally’s Corporation, Rush Street Gaming, and Te Warrenton Group have all put forward proposals.
Whilst a General Assembly will ultimately decide if Petersburg residents will get to vote this November on whether to bring a casino to their city, Senator. Lashrece Aird brought in potential operators to go public on their bids and to ensure a transparent process for the potentially significant economic development.
Penn National Gaming wants to develop a 90- acre casino and resort on Frontage Road off of I-95, which would include anESPN bet sportsbook, restaurants, a 200-room hotel, retail space, and an 8,000-person amphitheatre in partnership with Live Nation. Penn says they are considering a 90-acre site off Frontage Road just north of Rives Road for a hotel, casino and amphitheater development.
Te Cordish Companies, who Petersburg politicians had picked as a potential partner in
Nevada
Te family-owned Ellis Island hotel-casino, which has operated just off the Strip by the Flamingo for 55 years, is embarking on an expansion that will bring 6,415 square feet to the property.
Te 24-hour casino wants to develop a larger gaming floor, an audio/visual equipment area, a sportsbook back-of-house area and a south service entrance vestibule to the property. It will bring the curtain down on its 2,800 square foot microbrewery to allow space for renovation.
Christina Ellis, VP of Development, said: “Tis renovation gives us the opportunity to create an elevated gaming and entertainment experience while honouring our history and legacy.”
2022, pitched a 50/50 ownership model between the Cordish family and a group of Virginia business owners and athletes. It wants to build a casino off Wagner Road and I-95, along with restaurants, two hotels, and entertainment spaces. Te first phase of the Cordish project would include a 230,000- square-foot casino on 650,000 square feet of entertainment and retail space, along with two hotels and 1,000 residential units. It would take around two years to complete.
Rush Street Rivers Casino put forward a 40 per cent minority investment ownership with a casino, hotel, business and entertainment spaces off County Drive with an agreement in place with a local union group.
Bally’s will reserve 15 per cent of the equity in the casino for local people with a project including a 500-room hotel, restaurants, and entertainment space on Rivers Road. Finally, the Warrenton Group and Delaware North put forward a casino off South Crater Road with restaurants, entertainment, a 200-room hotel, a workforce housing complex, a healthcare facility and a culinary training programme.
New York Wynn’s casino plans criticised for housing plans
Wynn Resorts’ $12bn bid for a casino in New York City’s Hudson Yards is facing opposition from a community group who has slammed the project for seemingly squashing housing plans that had been promised for the area.
An agreement negotiated by Manhattan’s Community Board 4 in 2009, should have brought 5,700 apartments and a single commercial building to the neighborhood. Wynn and its partner in the project Related Companies have reduced that figure to just 1,507 alongside an 80-story tower, office buildings and apartment towers overlooking the Hudson River.
In a letter sent to Andrew Rosen, Related Companies’ Chief Operating Officer of Hudson Yards, and Department of City Planning
Director Dan Garodnick, Manhattan’s Community Board 4 (MCB4) stated: “MCB4 remains mystified how the Department and Commission of City Planning could review and consider such a plan which erases years of sound city planning and community efforts to replace it with such an anti-urban and anti-New York vision. MCB4 cannot support the proposed project’s drastic shift from residential to commercial use designed around casino use.”
“Now, the applicant, Related Companies, solely in pursuit of casino dollars as a means to fund the platform over the Western Rail Yards, proposes to amend that plan out of existence in favor of two oversize commercial towers, one of a hotel with 1,750 keys, sitting on the equivalent of a 20-story base containing a casino.”
