A measure of cognitive assessment and learning potential for children aged 6 to 12 years. Tests 5 cognitive areas: Orientation, Spatial Perception, Praxis, Visuomotor Organisation and Thinking Operations. For each sub-test there is an option of a structured, 5 step mediation. Measures of short term memory and time of performance are included. The goals are to identify strengths and deficits in the different cognitive areas and measure learning potential, as well as to recognise thinking strategies utilising dynamic procedures. Data for typical children aged 6 to 12 years with learning disabilities and brain injuries was collected to establish the standardisation and validity properties of the test. The L.O.T.C.A. (Loewenstein Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment) Battery is a cognitive battery of tests for primary assessment and ongoing evaluation in the occupational therapy treatment of brain-injured patients.
• The L.O.T.C.A. Battery has proved to be reliable and valid in providing the therapist with a profile of patient's cognitive abilities, which is necessary for planning treatment
• It consists of 20 sub-tests divided into four areas: orientation, visual and spatial perception, visual motor organisation and thinking operations
• The Battery has been standardised for the age range 20-70 years using traumatic brain injury and CVA patients within a control group
• The Battery's validity is further supported by the developmental age standards determined from a sample of 120 children aged 6-12 years, which show age progression according to the hierarchical order of the abilities assessed by the Battery

L.O.T.C.A.-G enables evaluation of cognitive performance skills while taking into account sensory-motor and time factors in normal ageing. The successful L.O.T.C.A. Battery has now been adapted and standardised for older patients with brain injuries aged 70-91 years. Individual tests have been modified and new, appropriate tests added to the Battery.
