Designed to prompt someone with memory problems that they need to take medication. Automatically dispenses pills up to 28 programmable times per day. It can be easily filled and programmed by a user, relative, carer or pharmacist. At the pre-programmed time the internal cassette rotates, the alarm signal is heard (continuous for up to one hour or until the pills are dispensed), a light flashes (for the hearing impaired) and the appropriate pills come into view. Two compartments can be programmed to alarm at the same time. To stop the alarm and dispense the pills, simply tilt the dispenser allowing the pills to fall into the hand or a suitable container. For people with limited dexterity or weakness of the hand/wrist, an optional tipper is available separately. The dispenser is lockable allowing access only to the medication due to be dispensed and preventing extra medication being taken. Spare trays are available enabling medication to be filled remotely by a carer or pharmacist. It has a one year battery life and a low level indicator when batteries are low. 3-4% of UK hospital admissions are thought to be as a direct result of avoidable medicine-related illness, including failing to take the correct medication at the correct time. People with dementia or learning disabilities are at particular risk of this. Pill Dispensers have been shown in a West Midlands Automated Pill Dispenser Trial (July 2009 – March 2011) to have produced a measurable decrease in GP visits, hospital admissions, care packages, ambulance call-outs and respite care. They have seen a return of £19.50 for every £1 they have invested.

The MEM-X is a vocal memory aid and the perfect device to assist, support and reassure people with memory loss or learning disabilities and their carers. A carer can record, in their familiar and comforting voice, up to 90 pre-programmed messages to be delivered at a precise time and day. To program the MEM-X simply open the hinged door on the back of the unit and press the ‘menu’ button. You can choose from 3 message types: fixed messages (delivered every day at the same time), weekly messages (at the same time on any defined day of the week) or one-time messages. Record the message, up to 10 seconds in duration, by pressing the record button. After recording, the message is automatically repeated and can be altered if needed. When the pre-programmed time arrives the MEM-X rings to alert the user. The person then presses the big blue button to listen to the instructions.
