Family Reassured By Simple Sensors
Bernard has dementia and lives with his wife and daughter. Identified risks included leaving the property alone and becoming lost and flooding the bathroom. A Floor & Door Sensor Kit (see pages 318, 323, 325) and Magiplug®
Flood/Scald Preventors
(see page 338) were provided which alert his wife so she can immediately deal with the problem before it reaches a crisis. The family is very pleased with these simple systems. Bernard’s wife no longer needs to follow her husband around and says she is now able to spend time gardening which previously she was unable to do.
Falls Prevention for Elderly Mother
Alerted Before A Crisis
A family’s stress and anxiety has been reduced through the use of a Border Patrol Safety Beam (see page 326) which alarms when Mum/Grandma Joyce, who has dementia, leaves her room at night. Her nocturnal activities such as in attempting to cook on the gas cooker were putting herself and the whole family in danger. Her daughter reported: "I worry a lot less knowing that I’ll be woken if my mother leaves her room at night".
Time to Take Your Pills
Henry, an 80 year old man with type II diabetes, high blood pressure and short term memory loss has been given an Automatic Pill Dispenser (see page 336). This saves his son ringing several times a day to remind his father to take his medication. A Memo Minder (see pages 326) was later purchased to remind Henry to lock up before he leaves the house.
Agnes is an 85 year old living with her daughter Kate, and prone to getting up in the middle of the night to use her commode, falling asleep on it and putting herself at risk of falls. Her daughter used to have to wake up at regular intervals to check her mother was safe. A Voice Alarm Bed Sensor & Pager (see page 321) was provided to alert the daughter if mother left the bed and didn’t return within fifteen minutes. This enabled the Kate to sleep more soundly, relying on the sensor to alert her, in a timely fashion, if her mother had not returned to bed.

Motion Detector Aids
24 Hour Care Harold is receiving 24 hour care and
supervision in his own home and is restricted now his mobility has
decreased. The Care Call System (see page 322-323) was used to alert his wife and also to support live-in care, which allowed his wife to have a respite break.
Increasing the Quality of Care
Alistair runs the house and cares for his wife who has dementia. He self- assessed and purchased Remote Control Motion Detector Lighting (see page 330-331) and a Voice Alert™Monitor with Sensor Mats (see page 319). “The pressure mat system alerts me when my wife gets out of her bed or chair – it’s just what I need to help me care for her. Now the room light switches on automatically when she gets out of her bed downstairs, and I know when she needs help.”

Bed Sensor Gives A Good Night’s Sleep
A couple, Mr and Mrs Sheldon, were struggling to manage Mrs Sheldon’s dementia. She had a history of wandering at night which resulted in falls, causing Mr Sheldon (who was hard of hearing) to lose sleep listening out for her. A Sensor Mat with Pager Kit (see page 318-321) has provided a solution to their problem - Mr Sheldon is alerted if his wife gets out of bed, ensuring he has a restful sleep. He also found that an Amplified Telephone (see page 332) could help him with his personal problem hearing the phone.
