Inside Story

career in industry, teaching or the NHS. Some of our partners are even full-time mothers or working other jobs while building their property portfolio. Their experience in property diff ers. Most of our partners have no experience in property investment apart from buying their own home or renting a property they inherited. Others may already have a large portfolio of single tenancy buy-to-let properties and some partners come from a commercial development background. So those who join us can already be

professional property investors or complete novices.

“Their properties generate four times the amount of rental income achieved by standard buy-to-let properties, with capital growth as an added bonus”

What support do franchisees receive? We work closely with our partners right from the get-go. At fi rst, we help them to establish short-, medium- and long-term fi nancial and life goals that help us to pair them with a suitable mentor. These mentors will be specialists in their chosen investment locations and guide them through the comprehensive training until

their fi rst property is fully tenanted. As part of this initial training programme, partners also attend a number of face- to-face training courses and receive a broad range of manuals, guidelines and supporting material. After that, we keep partners up-to-date with market and legislation changes through regular communication, educational webinars, and regional and national workshops that provide a great opportunity to network with new and existing partners. We also hold regular social events

throughout the year, including an annual awards ceremony, Ascot race days and beach parties.

And we don’t profess to be right for everyone. As well as having the available fi nances to become a partner, people need to have the time to devote to building their property business and the desire to learn as much as they can and be part of a sharing community.

What advice would you give to someone thinking of buying their fi rst franchise? The franchise’s industry, product or service should defi nitely be of interest. The last thing people want is to be stuck doing something they don’t enjoy. You should also check that a franchise

has a solid track record. Try asking existing franchisees what they think. It’s the next best way, after learning from your own experience, to see if what’s being promised is achievable. This should also give you an idea of the kind of people you could be working with. Finally, it’s very important to consider whether a franchise is right for you and your own particular needs and goals. Do you share the same values? If working part-time is important to you, does this franchise allow for that? If income is the reason you’re looking at franchising, will you be able to generate enough?
