Franchise Focus A high standard

Tina Rai discusses how she discovered the beauty of franchising with her own Guinot salon

INVESTMENT LEVEL: FROM £85,000 Tina Rai

What competitive advantages does the Guinot franchise off er? When we opened, we were apprehensive about building a client base from scratch and competing with established local salons. Although I had my existing clients from my salon, we knew this would not be enough. Since opening, the Guinot brand name has attracted a lot of custom. We’ve now built up a healthy clientele with high retention rates.

What skills do you consider essential for success? You need to be hard working, determined and focused. A good franchisor will offer a lot of support, so it’s important to follow their recommendations and implement their marketing strategies.

What have you found most benefi cial about being a franchisee? We run an independent salon, but with the support of one of the biggest names in the business. It’s reassuring to know that the franchise team is available if I need advice.

What words of wisdom would you give to someone thinking about becoming a Guinot franchisee? For somebody starting a fi rst-time salon, Guinot is a brilliant franchise opportunity that I can’t recommend highly enough. While the brand and its proven system will be your biggest assets, you will need to work hard to establish your salon. If you can match Guinot’s expertise and experience with your own determination and effort, you have a recipe for success.

F

or many people, opening a beauty salon is a long-term career ambition, but turning this dream into reality can be diffi cult without the proper guidance

and know-how. For a salon to achieve success it needs the right brand in the right location with the right support, and these fundamental factors are the foundation of the Guinot franchise opportunity. It was the expert knowledge and support of Guinot that led Tina Rai to explore the opportunity. Tina was Guinot’s second franchisee, opening her doors in Gerrards Cross in 2014. Although not a requirement, Tina had experience in the beauty industry, having run her own home-based beauty salon for a number of years. She had always planned to open a high-street salon but it was a daunting prospect, so she came to Guinot to fi nd out more...

What interested you in a Guinot franchise? I had always dreamt about owning my own beauty salon, and, with my family grown up, I was in a position to pursue this dream. Rather than open an independent salon, I was attracted to the Guinot franchise model, as it offered me the opportunity to accelerate my business growth. Guinot is a highly respected brand with a proven franchise operation, so I had confi dence that they were the right franchisor to work with.

What support did you receive when your franchise fi rst opened? The team were hugely supportive from the very fi rst meeting, helping with fi nance, securing property, salon design, staff recruitment, and training; they’ve been alongside us every step of the way.

Describe a typical day for you as a Guinot franchise... I am an owner-operator, so I am able to combine my love of beauty therapy with running a salon. I have cut back considerably on my time as a therapist, with all new clients being looked after by the salon team. I take client bookings two days per week, spending the other four looking after the running of the salon. Meeting clients is one of the things I like most about my job, so I make sure that I spend time front of house greeting them and fostering relationships.
