해원이와 리아의 뮤지컬 데이트
Peter and the Starcatcher 그리고 두개의 아주 다른 리뷰!
이번 달에는 어릴 때 같은 한글 학교를 다닌 해원이와 안드레아(리 아)가 뮤지컬 ‘피터와 스타캣춰’를 보고 리뷰를 써 주었습니다. 맘 앤아이에서는 주니어 리포터들의 활약을 기다리고 있습니다. 글을 쓰고 공연과 북 리뷰, 취재를 나가고 싶은 맘앤아이의 주니어 애독 자들의 많은 응모 기다립니다.
Hawon Lee
이해원 (Hawon Lee) 는 1999년 서 울에서 태어나 공부하는 아빠 따라 채 돌이 안된 10개월 때 미국에 왔고, 현재는 코네티컷 그린위치 (Green- wich, CT)에서 부모님과 남동생과 함께 살고 있습니다. 현재 Eastern Middle School 8학 년에 재학중이고 학교에서 오케스트 라와 합창단, 뮤지컬 공연과 디베이트 등 다양한 활동에 참여하고 있습니다. 학교 밖에서는 요즘 활쏘기에 한창 열
을 올리기 시작했고요, 피아노로 삼중주단에 참여해 공연을 준비하고 있기도 합니다. 학교에서 좋아하는 과목은 영어와 수학이랍니다. 장래 희망은 현재로서는 법률가라는데 계속 지켜보아야 겠지요?
Andrea Kim
김리아(Andrea Kim)는 2000년 2월 생으로 South orangetown middle school 7학년 입니다. 얼마 전 까지는 패션과 베이킹에 관심이 많 았는데요, 요즘은 첼로에 푹 빠져서 장래에 오케스트라에 들어가고 싶어 하는 감수성 풍부한 소녀입니다. 이 번에 맘앤아이의 주니어 리포터가 되 어 뮤지컬을 보게 되어 아주 기뻐 했 어요. 해원이를 몇 년 만에 다시 만나 서 처음에는 어색했는데 곧 음악이라 는 공통분모를 찾아 공연에 대해 많은 이야기를 나누었습니다.
Hawon’s Point of view
Throughout the several musicals that I have seen (which include Les Miserables, Newsies, Annie, The Phantom of the Opera, and Wick- ed), none have come close to being as creative and entertaining as Peter and the Starcatcher. This musical, written by Rick Elice, is unique in the way they utilize a small stage, a purposeful lack of modern stage equipment, an out-of-the-blue storytelling method and the human sense of humor to the fullest. One may note the distinct lack of songs in Peter and the Starcatcher. I was used to hearing many songs in musicals such as Les Miserables (due to way too many viewings on Youtube), however when I was reviewing Starcatcher, there were much less songs than what I was
used to in a musical over a two-hour period. This musical is not for those who wish for the best musical performance possible from a Broadway show. The music itself is admittedly not Peter and the Starcatcher’s main strength. This show’s strength lies instead in its out-of-the-box thinking and uniqueness. One thing that a viewer may find interesting is the lack of modern stage equipment that is used in the musical. The storytelling is done by actors on stage and much of the scenery, or background in many of the scenes, are made up of the people themselves. Props are almost wholly operated by people. This adds a more human aspect to the musical, contrary to other
