Elmhurst 3 Miss Lucas, our ballet teacher kindly invited the girls to Elmhurst School of Ballet on Tuesday 20th October.

The children arrived equipped with their ballet pumps and tutus ready to dance the morning away in a dance Master class.

On arrival Mr Tolj a teacher at the school showed everyone around starting with the classrooms where the children at Elmhurst take their normal academic lessons.

They visited a number of studios and watched as the ballet dancers glided gracefully around the floor. Year 7 girls practiced their plies.

Then on to another studio to take part in the Jazz workshop. The children, sautéed and darted around the room, with Jenny McNamara and afterwards watched, mesmerised, as the Year 8 students performed the routines they had been studying.

Mr Tolji took our dancers for a class of their own next, to show them the 7 basic movements of ballet. Everyone listened intently as he demonstrated the rises and stretches, plies and glisses - jumps and gliding to you and I.

The finale was Year 11 graduates showed the girls how to reverence (curtsy or bow to the audience and the accompanying pianist, Mr Patterson).
