Macmillan Coffee Morning 31

On Friday 25 September parents and children joined together for a coffee morning to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The many donations of home-baked cakes and cookies were enjoyed by everyone and only crumbs were left by the end! In addition to delicious cakes our guests were able to swap books and have a go at either the adult of children‘s raffle. Joe Lamb was the lucky first prize winner and received a fabulous ‘Bear Factory’ stuffed dog.

The morning raised a very generous £363.00 for the Macmillan Cancer Support group thanks to the support and efforts of Hallfield children and parents – well done !

Elocution Are You Sitting Comfortably 3

On Thursday 25th March parents and staff were treated to an evening of poetry with topics as diverse as how boring babies are, superstores for hobgoblins, boxing matches and the secret eating habits of teachers!

It was a most entertaining evening and Mrs Miles, former Head of English at Hallfield, had a very hard task in selecting winners from 24 well rehearsed and beautifully delivered poems. I did wonder whether Nadia Ismail had been secretly lurking by the staff room door as she gave a lively, and I have to say very accurate, account - 'Cakes in the Staff Room' by Brian Moss - of how much a few cakes liven up the teachers break time.

Marianne Fitzgibbon's rendition of a poem by Lady Gregory about the breakdown of a relationship, 'Broken Vows', was very moving and Mrs Miles, finding it difficult to decide between the two performances, awarded the William Atkins cup jointly to the two girls.

The Mudd Cup for Years 3 and 4 was awarded to Himmit Sidhu who transported us to a spine chilling, cold and dark place with a poem called 'The Castle of Gloom' by Wes Magee.

Personally my favourite poem was 'A Rock Makes an Excellent Puppy' by Kenn Nesbitt and whilst I agree that a rock does sit very quietly, doesn't make too much noise and doesn't eat much , it's not as warm and cuddly and loving as a puppy. Tigger agrees with me !
