National Primary Schools Championships 15 This event is rapidly assuming the position as the most exciting and important event in our calendar. Starting on a snowy day in February at St George’s School our U9 and U11 teams easily won their sections to qualify for the National Semi-finals that were held in the middle of June at Pontin’s, Prestatyn.

Mr Shackleton drove Mr Hunt and the teams to Wales where they were joined by parents. The U11 team, which came second nationally last year as U9s was expected to do well and duly qualified for the trials in 2nd place out of 34 teams. The U9 team exceeded expectations by also qualifying in 3rd place out of 23 teams.

The National Finals have just taken place at Pontin’s in Brean Sands and our teams were again well supported by a group of tireless parents. These trials are very hard with the 8 schools from the 3 semi-finals each playing against each other on a round robin basis. With all teams having got through two rounds there are no easy matches.

Our U11 team were in contention all the way but, following a difficult second day, finished by winning the third place trophy. Hari Nijjar is the only member of the team leaving this year and is being replaced by Vishal Aurora so we expect to compete keenly for 1st place next year!

Our U9 team found the going much harder and finished in eight place. However out top three boards will still be in the U9 team next year so the future looks rosy. 1/7
