Art

All Fired Up! 35 A small group met one Saturday morning in the Art Room to paint on plates in a relaxed and calm atmosphere despite the breezy storms outside.

We had a great time designing what we would have on the rims of our plates, whether we wanted a Christmas or Birthday theme... what colours we wanted... so many decisions! And who were we going to give them to ?

Bridget Riley Makes Year 5 Dizzy!

Mrs Culek planned an action - packed day at the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery on the 4th March for Year 5 children.

The workshop was run by artist Lucy Dagger who guided them through the stages of making a press print, how to incise the plate and ink it up with rollers before the really exciting bit of making the final print! The children examined the work of Arts and Crafts artist William Morris and William de Morgan who designed the most beautiful tiles.

A visit to the Bridget Riley flashback exhibition proved very popular and an effective way of making you feel dizzy and sick as the op art pictures painted in the 60’s played tricks on the eyes and brain. Cheaper than a trip to Alton Towers but not such a good idea just after lunch!!

Polar Bears and Robins 3

After the successful Sunsets and Landscapes greetings card project, we embarked on another seasonal journey in the Art Room designing cards on a winter theme.

A number of polar bears, penguins, reindeer and robins got us in the mood for Christmas . The sales of the cards resulted in Hallfield receiving a cheque for £197 that was sent to the Dogs for the Disabled charity that we were supporting that term.
