Seige Warfare at
Warwick Castle 13 After studying the Medieval Period and aspects of siege warfare during History lessons the children enjoyed a fantastic day out at Warwick Castle in order to consolidate their knowledge.
The day started with an exploration of the castle ramparts,
including mini-keeps, machicolations,
barbican, gatehouse and curtain wall. This was followed by a fascinating talk with the trebuchet master who shared all the gruesome facts about attacking a castle. The children were then amazed at the sight of the trebuchet being fired.
A visit to the Kingmaker and the Castle Gaol was followed by lunch. This was accompanied by the archer who demonstrated how to use a longbow and arrow. The children enjoyed counting down as the bowman tried to fire as many arrows as possible in a minute.
In the afternoon the children had a chance to visit the state rooms and marvel at the Great Hall and bedrooms. They then climbed to the top of the original Motte and of course they finished the day with a trip to the gift shop.
