Trips Year 1 Visit to Avoncroft

Museum of Buildings 7 It was a very wet day as Year 1 set off to the Avoncroft Museum, but despite the weather our spirits weren’t at all dampened!

One of the advantages about a wet day is that we were the only visitors at the museum, so we all had plenty of room to look around without any crowds to distract us.

Foundation Trip to

Umberslade Farm 3 Foundation had a fantastic day out at Umberslade Farm. Even though it rained on and off all day it didn’t spoil our fun!

We met lots of animals and were able to stroke and feed some of them. We were lucky enough to be able to feed the very greedy goats and the lambs, with bottles of milk!

We had a very bumpy tractor ride along a very rough road to see the animals in the fields and when we returned we were able to drive the tractors ourselves!!

The buildings at the Museum range in age from fairly recent (1950’s pre-fabricated) to medieval barns so it was a perfect opportunity for us to find out how buildings have changed as part of our History project for this term. Our guide, Jenny, gave each pair of children a photo and asked them to try to be house detectives and find out what was in the photo as we went around the museum. We saw old fashioned ways of cooking and washing and discovered how people would have kept their houses warm without glass in their windows!

We learned a lot and had a really enjoyable day.

Little Monkeys 7 The baby elephant was the star of the show for the Transition pupils on their trip to Twycross Zoo!

The monkeys rivalled the children in the volume of their chattering - but it is playtime so noise is allowed!
