Growing Potatoes 3
The children in Foundation have been taking part in a National Competition held by the Potato Council, to see which school could grow the most potatoes.
The Potato Council provided us with two different varieties of potatoes, Rocket and Emerald Vale, that we planted in March. The children really enjoyed watering them during their afternoon outdoor sessions.
We harvested our potatoes on Monday 28th June. The children loved digging through the soil to find lots and lots of potatoes. Everyone was able to take a bag home for their tea!!
We grew 1.7kg of Rocket potatoes and 1.6kg of Emerald Vale potatoes. We have submitted our results and have to wait to see if we have won the competition - fingers crossed that all of the watering has paid off!!
Hunters on the Wing 7 Chris Tarrant is just asking you what a Crepuscular hunter is
....and this is for a million pounds
...and then you wake up!! All the children in Year 1 would just have become millionaires because they know that it is a bird of prey that hunts at dawn and dusk!
They also learned about nocturnal and diurnal hunters from the Hagley Falconry Centre who brought in a Harris Hawk called Donald, a Golden Eagle called Copper and an aptly named Bateleur called Dave – bateleur means street entertainer in French, and Dave apparently loved to show off! There was an American Kestrel called Thomas and a Chaco Owl called Newton - I bet any mice we have around the Upper School Hall were shivering in their socks all morning!
The visit was part of the Year 1 studies on life in mediaeval times
