The Edge Foundation believes in ‘learning by doing’ in its schools, hotels and supported projects
The organisation The Edge Foundation is an independent education charity dedicated to raising the status of technical, practical and vocational learning. All young people should have the
opportunity to achieve their potential and the UK’s workforce needs to be equipped with the skills to be successful in a global economy. Edge believes that ‘learning by doing’
should be valued equally with academic learning and that all learners should experience a mix of both. Edge is interested in the development
of new curriculum and delivery models in higher education, and supports a number of projects, all of which look at innovative ways of approaching this.

Hotel Future This is a project led by the Manchester Hoteliers Association in partnership with Oldham Borough Council. A newly built luxury hotel in Oldham will provide training for students studying for apprenticeships, vocational qualifications, degrees and professional qualifications. Hotel Future is due to open in 2017.

The Edge Hotel School
The Edge Hotel School The Edge Hotel School, which has been open since 2012, is the first hotel school of its kind in the UK. Here, students study for a fast-track degree, accredited by the University of

Essex, while working alongside professional staff running the four-star country house hotel Wivenhoe House.
The curriculum has had direct input
from the hotel and hospitality industry. There are three student intakes a year and the opportunity to complete an honours degree in hotel management in two years.

The Eden Project The Eden Project was allocated funding via Edge’s Innovation and Development Fund to develop a world-class education and learning centre for horticulture and the visitor economy. As of September 2014, qualifications
are offered in partnership with Cornwall College Group.
